Charleswood Minor Baseball Association Moves to West Winnipeg Minor Baseball Association

Why did Charleswood Minor Baseball change their affiliation?

There are a few major reasons why this new partnership is not only good for baseball in the West, but also for the baseball community in Winnipeg.

Competitive Balance
This organization will add approximately 250 registrations bringing the total in West Winnipeg to 630. Winnipeg clubs will be further balanced out as we, Bonivital, Winnipeg South and Red River Valley will all be within <100 registrants. This re-zoning provides competitive balance among all teams in Winnipeg.

Two Organizations Coming Together
It can’t be overstated that this is two organizations coming together. It is not a takeover of one. Both Charleswood Minor Baseball and St. James Minor Baseball have come to an agreement on how to move forward because we feel that our baseball philosophies match. It’s also perfect that the geography works.

Name Change: West Winnipeg A’s
This expansion is a huge step in becoming one of the largest organizations in the city. Therefore, it was agreed the St. James will change the name of all AA and AAA teams to West Winnipeg A’s starting in the 2025 season. West Winnipeg is currently designing a new logo for our teams and for the Organization.

The 2025 Season

A Teams
Each community retains their A teams. The Charleswood A teams join the league already have in place with North, making the league stronger.

AA Teams
All AA teams in our organization will play as the West Winnipeg A’s at Optimist Park, one of the best facilities in the province.

These teams will be formed through our tryouts where we pick both AAA and AA teams. With the increased number of registrations in this move, the number of AA teams collectively should remain as in years past. As an example, last year St. James had 6 AA teams and Charleswood had 4. We will therefore strive to have 10 AA West Winnipeg A’s teams playing out of Optimist Park. These numbers will, of course, be subject to the amount of players we have trying out at each age group and level.

AAA Teams
No significant changes here as we will form one team per age group of 13U, 15U, and 18U. Each season we will determine if there is enough talent at a certain age group to consider having two teams, independent of the other ages.

West Winnipeg Minor Baseball will be rebuilding their website and creating a new logo, and both should be out later in January.
