Rally Caps

For Ages 7 & Under

This program is our introduction to baseball for our youngest players.  Special safety bats and balls are used such as incrediballs, tennis balls and whiffle balls.  Boys and girls learn fundamental baseball skills in a fun and non-competitive environment.

* The players are divided by shirt color into different ‘teams’.  Every evening, there will be three teams per field and they will rotate through a mixture of 20 minutes  of hitting, 20 minutes of in-fielding and 20 minutes of skill-development in the outfield.

* Different colored hats (grey, black, green, blue, red) can be earned by each player that meets the requirements for throwing, receiving, hitting, and general knowledge of the game.  (A player may earn up to two hats in a season.)

* All new participants are given a white cap if it is their first year of play. Returning players please let your coaches know what level hat was earned the previous season as this will ensure you are developing skills for the next level.

* Athletes will gain confidence as they progress through each level, evident by throwing father, receiving more accurately, hitting more effectively and increasing knowledge about the game.

* The Rally Cap Program is a great way for children to learn to love the game of baseball and to begin developing the skills they need to play it.

Baseball season begins in early May, weather permitting. The season ends in late June. Rally Caps play on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:15 to 7:15 pm, at one of two fields in Charleswood located just south of Westdale Junior High School.

* All players keep their ball cap and shirt at the end of the season.

* Registration Fee: $90.00 *

* Players are not divided by skill levels.

* Teams always play at the same location, with the same group of players and families.

* Equipment required: baseball glove and a water bottle labelled with the player’s name.  (You are also encouraged to bring your own baseball helmet but coaches have a supply on hand to share)

* Please ensure that at least one parent with a glove per player is available at every practice to assist with your son/daughter. Parents can help during hitting (coaches will pitch), by bat catching, holding the hit stick for the on-deck hitter, first and third base coaches, help keep players in the right batting order, keeping players busy in the infield between hits by rolling a ball to them and getting them to throw it back, and working one-on-one with your son/daughter in the outfield during skill-development under the coaches guidance. If a parent can’t be on-field then please let your coach know before practice so they can plan accordingly.
